Tips for Cutting Tile Without Chipping

Tape the Sides of the Cut
One of the simplest ways to avoid chipping is to tape on either side of the cut. Lay down a piece of masking tape along your guideline mark to make the line easier to follow with your tool and protect the edges of either side.

Go Slowly
Rushing the process can increase the likelihood of chipping, especially when you're using power tools. Instead, make slow, shallow cuts, and go over them with your power tool multiple times to complete the cut. It's best to go no more than 1/16" deep per pass.

Score Your Tile
If you have a wet saw or other power cutting tool, insert notches in the tile before cutting all the way through. This is called scoring. You can notch your tile using a dremel, an angle grinder, or even a glass cutter.
With a notch system in place, you can gently apply pressure while cutting with any tool to reduce the likelihood of chipping. Apply even pressure through the entire cut until you've gone all the way through the tile end-to-end.

If this is for a wet location such as a bathroom then you should not use drywall. If this is for a decorative wall or kitchen backsplash then all you need is some premixed tile adhesive. Just read and follow all of the manufactures specifications, such as tile size related to trowel size, drying times. Large format tile will usually require back buttering the tile first, again read and follow all manufactures recommendations. The Art and Science Behind Ceramic and Porcelain Tile Manufacturing

A Symphony of Ingredients
The journey of ceramic and porcelain tiles begins with the careful selection and blending of raw materials. Clay, feldspar, silica, and other minerals are meticulously combined to achieve the desired characteristics, such as color, texture, and durability. This harmonious blend forms the basis for the tile body, setting the stage for what's to come.

Shaping the Vision
Once the ingredients are mixed, the resulting paste is shaped into tiles through various methods. Extrusion, where the paste is pushed through molds to form the desired shape, is commonly used for certain tile types. For more intricate designs like mosaic tiles, individual pieces are cut and assembled to create stunning patterns.

From Kiln to Transformation
The shaped tiles undergo a critical phase known as firing. This process involves subjecting the tiles to intense heat in kilns, causing a chemical transformation that solidifies the tile body. The temperature and duration of firing are carefully controlled to ensure the tiles achieve the desired strength and properties.

Glazing Brilliance
For tiles requiring a glazed finish, a meticulous glazing process follows firing. The glaze, a liquid glass mixture, is applied to the surface of the tile. This step not only adds an aesthetic touch but also serves as a protective layer that enhances the tile's durability and resistance to stains and wear.

The Magic of Decoration
To bring intricate designs to life, tiles may undergo a decoration phase. Digital printing technology allows for highly detailed and customizable patterns to be applied to the tiles' surface. This technology ensures consistency and precision in design, enabling the creation of everything from marble-look to wood-look tiles with remarkable realism.

The Final Touches
After glazing and decoration, tiles undergo a final firing process known as "firing in." This step ensures that the glaze is fully integrated with the tile body, enhancing its longevity and visual appeal. This firing also determines the final size, shape, and quality of the tile.

Quality Control and Innovation
At TIEIC, quality control is an integral part of the manufacturing process. Each tile is carefully inspected to ensure it meets the highest standards of craftsmanship. TIEIC's commitment to innovation drives continuous improvement, resulting in tiles that not only meet but exceed customer expectations.

A Masterpiece Unveiled
The culmination of these intricate steps is the creation of ceramic and porcelain tiles that adorn homes, commercial spaces, and architectural wonders. From subway tiles that pay homage to tradition to wood-look tiles that evoke nature's beauty, each tile tells a unique story of artistry and innovation.

5 Things You Should Know About Cleaning Porcelain Tiles
Ceramic Mosaic Wall Tile

Sweep or vacuum dust and dirt away

Your first cleaning action should be to get rid of any dust and dirt that has gathered. This can be done daily by using a vacuum cleaner, or it can be swept away. A dry mop is recommended for sweeping, rather than a broom, as this will give better day-to-day protection for the tile surface.

Avoid chemical cleaners containing ammonia, bleach or acids for regular cleaning

Porcelain tiles are heated to fuse the mixture together, giving it similar water-resistant qualities to glass. Regular use of corrosive chemicals can erode the surface of the tile, and increase its water absorption rate. Corrosive chemicals will also erode the grout, which will loosen the tiles and allow water to get beneath the tiles creating dampness. For everyday cleaning of indoor and outdoor porcelain tiles, just use warm water and a mop. Every couple of weeks clean with a mild detergent mixed in warm water. Only consider chemicals to remove any stubborn stains.

Completely wash away detergents

When using a detergent, ensure it is of a low concentration. Textured tiles may need a slightly higher concentration than other tiles. Cover an area of the floor with the cleaning solution and let it stand for about 5 minutes. Then use a mop to clean the area. Do not let the cleaning solution dry. Next, mop the area again with clean, warm water. This will get rid of any detergent residue and prevent water spots or powdery marks.

Stain removal

Not all stains are created equal. We tend to utilise the same cleaning method for all stains, but this is not the correct way to go about things. Stains should be treated in the most effective way to reduce any long-term damage to the tiles or grout. When dealing with stains only clean the affected area; do not use on the whole floor.

Get rid of stubborn stains with gentle chemical use

Following the above guidelines will give your porcelain tiled floor the best protection it can get, and keep it looking its best. Unfortunately, accidents do happen, and major stains to tiles may need to be treated with a more aggressive approach requiring chemicals. Be aware that these chemicals can lead to a change in colour of the grout. First of all, follow the instructions above and find the best method to clean the particular stain. Make sure you are wearing suitable gloves, a mask, and eye protection, and ventilate the area by opening windows and doors that lead outside. Only clean the affected area.

What Is the Difference Between Ceramic and Porcelain Tiles in Mosaics

Ceramic and tile are both popular choices for mosaics, but there are some differences between them. Ceramic tiles are made from clay, which is fired at a lower temperature than ceramic tiles, which makes them less dense and slightly more porous. Ceramic tiles are generally cheaper and easier to cut, but they may not be as durable or resistant to wear and tear as ceramic tiles. Ceramic tiles are made from a denser clay that is fired at a higher temperature, making them stronger, more durable and less porous than ceramic tiles. This makes them a better choice for high traffic areas or outdoor use.
